What this site is
TheCoastList is a free community events guide for SouthCoast Massachusetts and Providence, RI. We list upcoming events, shows, and things to do. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how we protect it.
Information we collect
Newsletter subscribers
If you sign up for our weekly digest, we store your email address. We use it only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
Event submissions
When you submit an event, you may optionally provide your name and email address. We use these only to follow up if we have questions about your submission. Providing them is optional — you can submit without them.
IP addresses
To prevent spam submissions, we store a one-way hash of your IP address alongside a daily submission count. We never store your raw IP address — the hash cannot be reversed to identify you.
Venue managers
If you manage a venue listing, we store your email address to authenticate you via a magic-link login. This is only collected when a venue manager relationship is explicitly set up by our admin.
What we do not collect
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics on this site. We do not build profiles on visitors. We do not sell, rent, or share any personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies
The only cookie this site sets is a short-lived session cookie used to keep admins and venue managers logged in. It is HttpOnly (not readable by scripts) and expires automatically. Visitors who do not log in receive no cookies.
Where data is stored
All data is stored in Supabase, a US-based database platform. We do not transfer personal data outside the United States.
How long we keep it
Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe. Submission contact details are kept for as long as the event record exists. You can request deletion of your information at any time by emailing us.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you. Email us at contact@thecoastlist.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
